Project Description
Paint and Handy undertook a refined three-day room restoration and redecoration project in a period property in Brockley, South East London. The brief was to enhance the architectural charm of the space while delivering a fresh, elegant finish using quality materials and thoughtful detailing.
The project began with the installation of a new plaster ceiling rose, chosen to echo the character of the original features and add visual depth to the central pendant fitting. A timber picture rail was custom-fitted around the perimeter, aligning cleanly with existing wall proportions and contributing to the room’s classic proportions.
Electrical works included replacing outdated wall sockets and light switches, providing a subtle modern upgrade while ensuring alignment and safety throughout.
For the decorative scheme, the ceiling, coving, and the section above the picture rail were painted in COAT’s ‘Cats Cradle’, a soft, refined off-white that brings height and calm to the space. The walls were completed in COAT’s ‘Weekender’, a versatile and muted neutral that complements natural light and pairs seamlessly with the room’s period elements.
All woodwork, including skirting boards and window trim, was prepared and finished with precision, ensuring sharp transitions and clean lines throughout. Attention was given to achieving a flawless blend between old and new—preserving heritage detail while enhancing the overall ambiance of the room.
